SQ BW

Iíve noticed that †square photographs have become popularized the past couple of years. I love taking square photos. Something about how the rule of thirds is almost too easy to manage while allowing greater freedom than a long-short edge photo might have something to do with it. Ď

Add a little elegant black and white post-processing and I am in love.

Black and white can capture form and visual beauty in a way thatís distinctly different from color. I feel calmer looking at black and whites and my eyes move more easily over the photo.

It can also give character to a color photo that just didnít belong in color. This photo retains itís grace without losing itself to the environement. The grain thatís revealed when processing the blacks and whites using certain color filters gives the photo a little character too.

I think Iím happy with this final rendition now. :)

Got any favorite photos in black and white?

Honestly, I wish I had more black and white photos of myself and my friends. As much as I love color, monochrome imagery seems to bring so much character to a photo. You can see ever crease, every shadow, the true depth and texture in black and white photos. I also love polaroids and photos with a purely vintage feel to them.

New project during our next outing perhaps? :D

The awesome part of color photos is that you can make them black and white! :)
If you want to do a little vintage shoot with some friends let me know. :) I can do a super discount and they can get some graduation pics that aren’t boring!
Actually bring your cap & gown and we’ll do yours as a sample. ^^
