Spring Birds in Roswell

Jeremy and I stopped by our friends’ Val & Sam’s home in Roswell this morning. One of my favorite things about their home is the forest in their backyard and the well appointed bird-attracting things that are everywhere within it. I brought my new lens in hopes that I’d get to use it and I was not disappointed.

We caught sight of a bluebird.

The humble but rather unloved brood-parasitic cowbird. This one’s a female.

The American goldfinch is a treat for me since we don’t ever see any in our side of town.

The downy woodpecker scoots up and down the tree. Amusingly, it doesn’t turn downwards when making it’s way towards the bottom of the tree. It just reverses the entire way. UnbrokenHorse.com-KD2A3449UnbrokenHorse.com-KD2A3457

This little cute chunk of fur isn’t a bird but still easy on the eyes. :)UnbrokenHorse.com-KD2A3438

Hi Sunira, This is Arun from Cbe, India, one of your mom’s classmates. It would be a surprise for u & your mom too if I tell you that I’m a bird lover too. I’ve in my college days won the 1st place in the bird identification competition held by the forest department continuously for 3 years. You cud very well even become an ornithologist. Get a even better lens for your camera & I wud advice you to get a book about local birds so that you can identify them immediately precisely. Congrats & let your intrest reward you. All the best – Arun, Cbe, India.

Thanks so much for the kind words! I just bought my 150-600mm lens last month so I’ll probably have to hold off on new lenses. I may consider an extension ring to help me increase the reach. :) I’ve been using both the Sibley and the Petersen guides to help me identify the local birds! I’m getting better at identifying them with just their calls and sounds along with their appearance. It’s a really wonderful outlet for me to both practice my art as well as enjoy the naturally positive spirit each bird brings. Do check out some of my other posts with our local birds!

      Do you take avian photographs?
